GMHS Names Tina Leone as New CEO

The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society (GMHS) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Tina Leone as its new Chief Executive Officer. Leone brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and accounting, along with a deep passion for animal welfare. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Leone previously served as the CEO of the Ballston Business Improvement District in Arlington, VA, for 12 years, as well as the CEO of District Dogs, a dog daycare, boarding, and grooming company with six locations across Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. “Tina’s extensive experience, proven leadership, and passion for animal welfare make her an exceptional fit for GMHS,” said Elizabeth McCormick, President of the GMHS Board of Directors. “We are excited for her to lead the organization as we continue to grow and serve the companion animals and families in our community.” In addition to her professional experience, Leone has been an animal rescuer and advocate for more than two decades. She previously served on the boards of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and American Brittany Rescue. A lifelong upland bird hunter and enthusiast of pointing and flushing dogs, she founded Sporting Dog Rescue International in 2019, which has rescued more than 300 bird-hunting dogs both domestically and internationally. “I am thrilled to be joining such a welcoming and compassionate community,” said Leone. “I already feel at home and am eager to further enhance and expand GMHS’ impact in the region. After 30 years in the D.C. metro area, I’m excited for this new chapter in Gloucester—it reminds me so much of my hometown in northeastern Pennsylvania.” |
