Tribute Walkway
Immortalize a loved one, honor a pet, or show your individual or company’s support by purchasing an inscribed brick that makes up the walkway leading up to and around the shelter.
Inscribed bricks make a great graduation, birthday, holiday, or just-because gift! To get started, download our Tribute Walkway Form. Tribute Walkway Forms are processed as received.
Angel Fund
The Angel Fund pays for non-routine veterinary procedures for the homeless animals at GMHS. We often see animals who have been hit by cars; suffering from rare, treatable muscular or neurological diseases; or animals requiring expensive treatments for ailments above and beyond basic preventative care. GMHS uses the donations in our Angel Fund to secure the necessary veterinary services for the homeless animals that need us to go above and beyond medically. The Angel Fund gives them a second lease on life.
You can be an angel on earth of an animal in need by donating to the Angel Fund.

Helen’s Fund
Helen’s Gift was established at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society to honor Helen Harrington Hutcheson’s extraordinary spirit and her abiding love of all creatures great and small. Statistics show that up to 25% of all animals surrendered to animal shelters nationwide are pets who are surrendered because of owner illness, aging, or death. This often overlooked and under-served population are animals in crisis – their stories are poignant and heartbreaking, but thanks to Helen’s Gift, they have a chance for a happy ending.
If you or someone you know is no longer able to care for a pet due to owner aging, illness or death, contact GMHS to find out how Helen’s Gift may be able to help.

About Helen
Helen Harrington Hutcheson (1920-2010) led an extraordinary life. Orphaned at 16, widowed at 21, she turned tragedy into triumph and eventually re-married and became a mother, celebrated nurse, and community activist. But the constant in her life was the help she always gave others. And the constant by her side was always an Airdale – or two. When she died in January 2010, her dogs Rusty and Jack were with her.
